Ciné Art is a monthly event featuring a short talk followed by a film on the life of an artist: Fernando BOTERO.Fernando Botero, a Colombian watercolorist and sculptor, has been renowned for his round, voluptuous figures since 1958, when he won first prize at the Salon des Artistes Colombiens (Spanish: Salón de Artistas Colombianos), inspired by pre-Columbian art. Ironically dubbing himself “the most Colombian of Colombian artists”, he was one of the few painters to achieve success during his lifetime. His 1957 Still Life with Mandolin is the first manifestation of his work inspired by pre-Columbian and folk art. His unique style, with oversized figures and objects in precise detail, sets him apart. A figurative painter with no specific movement, prolific in painting and sculpture, he is South America’s most famous artist.
