CONFÉRENCE – L’ARBRE DANS L’OEIL DU PEINTRE

VIAS

Description

“At a time when forests are burning and trees are disappearing, it’s time to rediscover how artists between 1850 and 1950 celebrated their beauty, mystery and symbolic power.

The tree, a pictorial heritage to be replanted in our gaze.”

From the end of Romanticism to the beginnings of abstraction, the tree was a central figure in painters? imaginations.
Sometimes a refuge, sometimes a witness to the world, it embodies the vital force, solitude, spirituality and the link between heaven and earth.

This lecture takes us on a journey through the works of painters from all horizons, including of course those from the Occitan region, to explore the place of the tree in pictorial art.

How have artists depicted the tree?

What symbolism did they attribute to it?

And what does this plant figure tell us about our relationship to the world and to ourselves?

Virginie SARFATI, a much-appreciated resident of Vias, notably as a leader of the “Discovering the history of ART” workshop, opens the doors to a century of art and emotion.
