LES CAMMAZES
In 2026, we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Canal du Midi’s inclusion on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. To mark the occasion, the Cammazès Town Hall is organising an exceptional day dedicated to discovering this masterpiece of engineering.
In the afternoon, primary school pupils will take part in a fun and educational activity:
“How does it work?”, organised by the Acampo association.
Using models and visuals, the children will discover in an interactive way who built the canal, why, how it works and what it is used for.
In the evening, it’s time for a family discovery experience open to all:
“Le Canal du Midi: l’essenCIEL, the essentials of the Canal from the air”.
This slide show hosted by André Authier will plunge you into the fascinating story of Pierre-Paul Riquet and his work.
On the programme:
An extraordinary history
An ingenious water supply system
The keys to understanding a UNESCO-listed site
With spectacular aerial views, plans and diagrams, this presentation offers a unique immersion in the canal’s heritage.
