TOULOUSE
For 3.5 billion years, living things have been evolving and developing ingenious adaptation strategies. Nature’s capacity for innovation has long inspired humans in the design of materials, tools and technologies. Since the 1990s, this research has been structured around biomimicry, a concept defined by the American researcher Janine Benyus, which involves drawing inspiration from the way living organisms function in order to design more sustainable models.
At the crossroads of the arts and sciences, this exhibition brings together the work of Pierre Jean Giloux, Jérémy Gobé and Paula Nishijima. Their work is based on close observation of our environments, exploring different ways of rethinking our relationship with living things.
Through a variety of media, including the creation of biomaterials, their works invite us to ‘learn to see’ nature differently, and to reflect on the interdependent relationships that link us to the living world.
Conceived by the Quai des Savoirs and Les Abattoirs, the exhibition highlights the richness of the dialogue between the arts and sciences, and opens up avenues for imagining ways of living that are more respectful of the living world.
Due to work being carried out in the Quai des Savoirs exhibition room, the exhibition Listening to Life is being held at the Abattoirs.
