TOULOUSE
A bridge between town and country, between Languedoc and Gascony, nestled between the River Garonne and the trade routes, the Saint-Cyprien district and its history are closely linked to the food trade. The guided tour will tantalise your taste buds, bring to life the Quasimodo festivities (after Easter) and the Saint-André livestock fairs (30 November), and rekindle memories of the trades of yesteryear. Dairymen, cheesemakers, bargemen, fishermen, horse dealers, bakers, grocers, wine merchants, farmers and so many others… It is they who, for centuries, have been working in the name of good food and the art of living… without any pretence or frills. As you will have gathered, your guide will not necessarily focus on the cornerstones of south-western French gastronomy, but rather on the raw ingredients that enhance our dishes and have built our country’s gastronomic reputation. The guided tour ‘Eating Well in St-Cyp’ showcases the produce of the Earth, Water, Animals and People. Passionate men and women whom you’ll meet along the way.
That’s right – once you’ve got a feel for the soul of the neighbourhood, the second part of the tour can begin. On your marks! Get set? Take a whiff, have a nibble, take a sip, and savour the moment!
Taking part in this tour means savouring the present moment in a fast-changing 21st-century society. We feel the need to eat food that is local, healthy and delicious, whilst respecting the passionate people who work the land and produce ‘Good Food’, prioritising short supply chains (Slow Food). Our aim is to share these tried-and-tested values with you through artisanal and local produce. Sweet, savoury, plant-based, natural. Simplicity above all.
