CONCERT ENTRE GARONNE ET TAMISE

TOULOUSE

Description

To compose this programme, its conductor, Éric Vignon, has combined English and French music from the Renaissance to the present day. The game consists of listening to the pieces chosen in pairs, one French and one English, from the same period, in order to grasp the differences in aesthetics.

Thus, J. Desprez is compared with Th. Tallis, G. Costeley with J. Dowland, J. Ph. Rameau with G. F. Haendel, E. Elgar with D. de Séverac, R. Vaughan Williams with F. Poulenc and B. Britten with J. Busto. Britten by J. Busto.

A final duet brings together the choir and L’atelier des Sacqueboutiers. They perform Funeral music of Queen Mary composed by H. Purcell. This is one of his most moving works, full of solemnity, composed for the funeral of Queen Mary II of England, who died of smallpox in 1695. It was also one of Purcell’s last compositions, performed at his funeral a few months later.
