CONFERENCE “JOURNALISME FACE A L’HISTOIRE”

REVEL

Description

Over the course of forty years in journalism, Dominique Derda has covered numerous conflicts: Liberia, Somalia, Kuwait, Iraq, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Chechnya, the Ivory Coast, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Gaza, to name but a few. As a correspondent for France 2 in Russia, the United States, Africa and the Middle East, he was one of the familiar faces to France 2 viewers. His reports have earned him prestigious awards: the Bayeux Prize for war correspondents and the prize from the French Association of Diplomatic Press. But one of the awards closest to his heart is undoubtedly the ‘Entre 2 marches’ prize for a film on disability, which he received at Cannes for an in-depth report on the round-the-world trek around the Annapurnas undertaken by people in all-terrain wheelchairs.

A common thread runs through all her reports: human stories, told from close quarters with those who shape history or are affected by it.

Back in France after his last posting in Jerusalem, Dominique Derda left the editorial team at the public broadcaster and settled in Saône-et-Loire, at the foot of the Morvan hills. The time had come to retire. But his curiosity was far from quenched. No sooner had he settled in than he set about making a 52-minute documentary on prostitution in rural areas. The film, *Les filles sans joie des petites routes* (*The Joyless Girls of the Country Roads*), is being broadcast on the France 3 regional network and the France.tv platform.

Dominique Derda has also, for the first time, exhibited his photographs taken during his reporting trips to Africa and Russia. It’s another way of continuing to tell the world’s story.
