FRONTIGNAN
The Université du Temps Libre du Bas Languedoc (UTL 34) invites you to a lecture on François-Xavier Fabre, one of the most distinctive painters of his time, as part of its 2026–2027 lecture series.
A Painter, Secrets, a Career, and Two Countries
Born in Montpellier in 1766 and died in 1837, François-Xavier Fabre led a life as secretive as it was romantic. A student of David and winner of the Prix de Rome, he spent most of his career in Italy, where his friendships and romantic relationships earned him a special place in art history. Lecturer Yolande Pla-Lopez guides you through the mysteries of his life, his works, and his deep connections to two countries.
An Exceptional Legacy to Montpellier
Fabre bequeathed a remarkable collection to his hometown, giving rise to the Fabre Museum in Montpellier, one of the richest fine arts museums in France. This lecture invites you to explore this little-known story.
The lecture is open to everyone. Capacity is limited to 25 people; registration is required at www.utl34.fr.
