Considered the first true English opera, Dido and Aeneas is a work of remarkable dramatic intensity, skillfully blending comedy and tragedy. In the manner of a musical Shakespeare, Henry Purcell portrays the tragic passion between Dido, Queen of Carthage, and Aeneas, the Trojan prince.
Carried by expressive music, powerful choruses, and refined orchestration, this production will be staged by Benoît Bénichou, director of the Théâtre du Minotaure in Béziers and a stage director for several opera houses.
