TOULOUSE
Two outstanding figures in traditional music from the south of France join forces for an unprecedented adventure in sound. Arnaud Bibonne, rooted in the traditions of Gascony, and Benjamin Melia, a specialist in the music of Provence and the northern Mediterranean, joyfully explore an imaginary territory, nourished by wisdom, complicity and invention.
Buoyed by a deep knowledge of their respective folk repertoires – Landes and Auvergne on the one hand, Provençal, Nice and Alpine on the other – and an unabashed taste for improvisation, the duo create astonishing sound textures, playing with timbres and hijacking instruments to reveal their unsuspected resources and hybrid characteristics. Beyond the melodies, the focus is on raw sound, living matter, its resistance, its harmonics – and the art of letting it guide you.
The experience is organic, between archaic breath and contemporary gesture, between anchoring and unfolding. This duo’s first creative residency will immerse them in a sensitive geography, an invitation to listen differently.
