In the 18th century, pastoral scenes of shepherds in love flooded painting and literature, as well as music, which brought popular instruments such as the hurdy-gurdy and the musette back into fashion. Composers such as Rameau, Couperin and Boismortier paid tribute to nature in pieces bursting with colour and emotion.
