Description

Exhibition of paintings by Nicole Pfund and sculptures by Gilles Bonnin. Two artists invite you to discover their poetic universe.#CULTURE#EXHIBITION AGDE
It is no coincidence that Nicole Pfund and Gilles Bonnin are exhibiting together. They undoubtedly met in the parallel, dreamlike dimension of artistic creation, and their poetic worlds offer some very moving similarities.
The sculptor’s work perfectly echoes that of the painter in its use of raw, rough, mineral, earthy materials, a deliberate paradox to speak of the immaterial song of the world and allow us to hear the music of hope.

Nicole Pfund speaks to our adult eyes with the language of childhood, that of fairy tales, poetry and dreams. She depicts tall, elegant figures with animal heads. These hybrid beings, ‘animal musicians’, seem to be playing beautiful, nostalgic music.
The only black mark on the soft colours of the canvases, as if washed by the rain of oblivion, their strangely human gaze tells of a dream of waiting and loneliness, of time suspended. Nicole’s characters are mirrors of our lives. They reflect our fragility and our richness. They play a discreet little tune in colour, that of life passing by.

For that is precisely the point: through her drawings and her careful choice of colourful materials, Nicole Pfund allows us to see and hear the symphony of human destiny. Between discordant and perfect chords, between the search for absolutes and improbable harmonies, she invites us to feel empathy for her character, who is “astonished by his place in this world, pensive about the role he has to play in it.

A titmouse nests in his studio, a crow has accompanied him for 20 years, and there are many other encounters behind the window that opens onto the garden and its birds.
Gilles Bonnin sculpts what fascinates him: birds. He speaks to our adult eyes with the language of poetry and dreams. This staging of a stylised and imaginary feathered bestiary allows us to discover the discreet life of those who can fly. Each work tells a story, an image of fragility and surprises. His birds, alone or in groups, seem suspended in time. With kindness, settled in their huts or boats, they share their songs with the viewer. Assembling materials such as metal, ceramics, wicker and copper wire, a subtle interplay develops between fullness and emptiness. This becomes a precarious balance between strength and fragility.
There is something poetically ethereal about these sculptures. Gilles Bonnin seems to want to abolish time and space, allowing our imaginations to wander along the path of birds. Pierro Cavalleri.
