CARCASSONNE
Diego Baliardo, co-founder of the original GIPSY KINGS® group, continues his tour surrounded by the new generation of the Gypsy family. True heirs to flamenco, they are destined to become the future kings and eternal ambassadors of this captivating music across the globe.
The Baliardo family has undoubtedly produced some of the greatest and most acclaimed guitar masters, inheriting the legacy of their “godfather,” Manitas de Plata (Ricardo Baliardo). In keeping with history and tradition, every member of the family grows up with a guitar in hand, learning from their relatives from an early age.
A visionary and the driving force behind the group, Diego has also helped promote Gypsy culture around the world. The adventure began in 1978, when none other than Brigitte Bardot, Saint-Tropez’s most famous resident, invited them to perform at a private party. Numerous invitations throughout the vibrant French Riviera soon followed, quickly making the group a favorite among billionaires and international stars. Mainstream success came swiftly with timeless hits such as “Bamboleo,” which topped charts around the world and made them the very first Gypsy group to earn a Gold Record in the United States. Over more than 40 years of career, they have continued to produce global hits with Gypsy classics such as “Djobi Djoba” and “Baila Me,” as well as their unique and fiery interpretations of standards including “Volare,” “Hotel California,” and their adaptation of “Comme d’habitude” / “My Way”: “A mi manera,” which inspired the title of their 2024 tour, “A NUESTRA MANERA TOUR.” With more than 20 million albums sold and a Grammy Award for Best World Music Album for “Savor Flamenco,” their worldwide success and musical legacy continue to shine across generations.
