Pointu Festival

Le Grau d’Agde

Description

A must-see event for lovers of tradition and local cuisine: the 2026 Pointu Festival in Le Grau d’Agde! Organised by the Association of Traders of Le Grau d’Agde and the Confrérie des Pointus.
The pointed whelk, a type of sea snail, will be in the spotlight, and restaurateurs will be serving it up in a variety of mouth-watering recipes. Visitors will be able to taste them and learn about the unusual history of this gastropod from the fishermen themselves…

A gastropod like no other
The Pointu, whose scientific name is Bolinus Brandaris, is famous for its formidable spiral spines around its shell. In the past, it provided the precious ‘Tyrian purple’, a royal dye used by Roman emperors and Byzantine rulers. This fascinating story will be recounted by passionate fishermen on the Quai Commandant Méric during demonstrations of fishing and shelling techniques, much to the delight of curious visitors and food lovers alike.

Tasting and original recipes
From 10:00 am, a necklace purchased on site will give you access to a tasting in each partner restaurant. The chefs will compete creatively to help you rediscover this refined delicacy in a variety of recipes, each more appetising than the last.

The event will take place in a friendly and festive atmosphere thanks to a peña and entertainment provided by the Confrérie des Pointus, founded here in 2014 to preserve and pass on this maritime tradition.
