In a setting that is almost entirely behind closed doors, three groups in crisis will unfold against a similar backdrop, yet each with its own distinctive rules and aesthetic: young, rebellious activists and anarchists using cardboard to feed their desire for anonymity and collective action; Americanised screenwriters with smudged lipstick, caught up in a frenzy of competition; and members of a despotic, invisible government mired in their own absurdities.
Carried away by a sense of urgency unique to each act, the situations veer into the absurd and the comic; the characters explode, clash and take on unexpected roles. As the performance progresses, the social strata multiply, highlighting individualism, the omnipresence of surveillance and pressure, and strategies of manipulation. The haunting and imaginary George Kaplan turns out to be a satire designed to question the power of fiction over reality and to examine our contemporary ills: how far can we go for a cause, a job, or a thirst for power? Can we maintain our personal quest whilst part of a collective? To what extent do microcosms and atmospheres shape our personalities?
