OLONZAC
Céramique de Thau; is the workshop of two talented potters:
François Thirion, initiated to ceramics in Biot, in Tim and Jacqueline Orr’s workshop, opened his first workshop in Majorca, then created “l’Atelier du Port” in Marseillan, a workshop which became the Atelier de Poterie Céramique de Thau in 2015.
Roman Blomme, after a career in design and film sets in Vancouver, Canada, trained in ceramic throwing and joined the workshop. “Their creations reflect the workshop’s close relationship with the environment of the Etang de Thau, its oyster beds and the Mediterranean. Concept, production, types of objects, colors… Their stoneware ceramics are most often inspired by this strong identity and the world of the Bassin de Thau. They can be seen at potters’ markets or directly at the workshop, located in a quiet village street.
Géraldine Garçon was born in Rennes. After spending her teenage years in South America, she
returned to France to continue her studies at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Seizing every opportunity to explore new horizons, she has produced numerous travel journals, some of which have been published by Magellan et Compagnie. After spending two years in Barcelona, Géraldine set up her studio in the south of France, in Béziers, where she teaches and practices etching.
“Drawing on the fly allows me to capture moments on the fly: sketching scenes from ordinary life, taking note of anything that surprises me. It’s linked to the present, to emotions, to external conditions: a gust of wind, an encounter, the hustle and bustle, my paint pot spilling… From these walks, I bring back many sketches that serve as a basis for my work. The engraving comes later: back from the trip and in the calm of the studio
His exhibition at Coin d’Art features views of the south, sun-drenched drawings and engravings.
Opening on Saturday August 9 at 6pm.
