REVEL
Why choose to follow in the footsteps of the pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela?
Although the motivations of pilgrims from all over the world are now more varied than in the Middle Ages, they remain deeply personal and intimate.
For me, walking alone almost 6,000 km along the Camino de Compostela – from Conques to Arles, from Toulouse to Somport, from Roncesvalles to the Camino Francés, from the Camino del Norte to the Primitivo, not forgetting the Via Aurelia – was an adventure rich in experiences and trials. A walk to discover the places and history of the Jacobean Way, of course, but above all a succession of images, encounters and shared moments, revealed by the value of each step.
This talk is not a chronological account of the routes taken, but a testimony built around thematic approaches: historical landmarks, the religious dimension, Creanciale and Compostela, the diversity of the routes, bridges and fords, signposting, accommodation, food, pilgrims’ equipment, encounters, domestic and monumental architecture, towns and villages, Jacobean signs, deep-seated motivations…
