BOUZIGUES
Born in Sète into a family of fishermen, Jean-Louis Martire was a man of the pond, a man of the sea, until an accident – the explosion of an oil tanker, the Gunny, in the port of Sète in 1977 – forced him to stop work and put color tools in his handsalthough he soon resumed his work as a boatman, Jean-Louis has never stopped drawing, painting and sculpting his “hieroglyphs of the unconscious”, which inevitably lead us back to an imaginary world of water and its biotopea painter who calls himself “mediumnic”, whose works seem improvised but know no erasures, Jean-Louis Martire is to be placed in the lineage of liberated artists such as Pierre François. This exhibition is the first in which his work, largely unpublished, is shown over a period of almost 40 years, through an ensemble of sculptures, plates, drawings, paintings and engravings.Access under normal admission conditions.
