In 1834, Father Gailhac opened a shelter for prostitutes at 21 rue Ermengaud, known as Le Bon Pasteur. In 1851, he founded Cours Saint-Jean at no. 23, a school for young girls from wealthy backgrounds, entrusted to the Sisters of the Congregation of the Sacred Heart of Mary. In 1855, Father Martin founded the École du Sacré-C?ur on Boulevard d?Angleterre, this time for boys.
Today, the Lycée professionnel privé Le Sacré-C?ur combines the buildings of these two former establishments. On the occasion of the Journées du Patrimoine, guided tours of the lycée are offered to discover the history of this emblematic site of education in Béziers.
