VALLEGUE
Originally owned by King Philip III, then by the Bishop of Toulouse in 1278, it was sold on several occasions throughout its history and has had a number of illustrious figures among its owners. Notably, it was owned by the Imperial General Compans from 1808 to 1844. Its current owner has lived there and been restoring it since 1996. Respecting its heritage, he is opening its doors to the public on an exceptional basis for the European Heritage Days.
The castle comprises a combination of elements remodelled at various times since the 14th century and owes its cohesion to the 70-metre-long façade which, with its two towers, retains the well-preserved appearance of an imposing medieval fortification. The entire north façade is reinforced by two buttress-turrets and two corner towers fitted with arrow slits across three storeys. At the end of the 17th century, major works were undertaken to transform this medieval fortress into a pleasant and comfortable residence.
The owners will show you around the castle’s grounds as well as two interior rooms, including an 18th-century kitchen which houses a collection of exceptional coffee grinders and irons.
You will also have the opportunity to view documents dating from the First Empire.
