JOAN MIRО́ : PROTESTATION

TOULOUSE

Description

Bringing together nearly 200 works – paintings, drawings, sculptures, tapestries, costumes, films and photographs – this exhibition reveals a deeply committed Joan Miró, whose creative practice became a true act of resistance.

Through a chronological journey, discover how the artist constantly challenged the conventions of painting, going so far as to seek to ‘assassinate’ his own medium by experimenting with new materials, burning his canvases or collaborating with artists, filmmakers and theatre practitioners.

Against the backdrop of the Spanish Civil War and Franco’s dictatorship, his work took on a profoundly political dimension, making protest a driving force behind his creativity. From his famous politically engaged series to the monumental tapestries created with Josep Royo, via the costumes for the play *Mori el Merma*, inspired by *Ubu Roi*, the exhibition reveals an artist who was free-spirited, daring and deeply in tune with his times. Immerse yourself in the world of a creator who transformed art into a language of protest.
