LA MÒSSA + SOLLÙNA – FESTIVAL OCCITANIA

TOULOUSE

Description

La Mòssa is a perpetual motion, a polyphonic and percussive whirlwind.
At the heart of this story of perpetual motion that is La Mòssa lies a quartet of artists determined to blend their vocal timbres and percussion, whilst shaking up a few stereotypes. Drawing inspiration from traditional repertoires to polish a gem of a debut album, they now offer us a fresh plunge into their world. By creating a set of compositions firmly rooted in the present, these four women shake up, with greater intensity, the apparent naivety of rhythms and melodies drawn from centuries-old traditions.

La Mòssa continues to grow in strength through its interplay with sounds and the meanings of words. With this repertoire, largely composed by the group themselves, they are leaving a new mark on their history… Every member of the group contributes to this grand musical feast, which is at once subtle, feverish and committed. It features flavours from lands of cultural fusion: southern Italy as the original breeding ground, Réunion and its sweet-and-spicy words, Spain as poetised by García Lorca, and the outspoken Occitanie… Three covers are woven into this new set: hybrid reinterpretations from Sweden, Venezuela and Puglia.

Emmanuelle Ader, Sara Giommetti, Aude Marchand and Lilia Ruocco break free from the conventions of the genre, drawing as much on their freedom as on their respective influences. In search of rougher sounds, they make powerful use of percussion, which becomes a sixth voice and adds depth.
