Perched on a hill in the heart of the Languedoc plain, the Ensérune oppidum offers an exceptional panoramic view of the Cévennes, the Montagne Noire, the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean. A fortified Celtic city founded around 575 BC, over the centuries it witnessed the passage of Iberians, Greeks, Punics, Etruscans and Romans. Over a century of archaeological research has revealed the importance of this site at the crossroads of civilizations. As a site of national interest, the Centre des Monuments Nationaux is committed to safeguarding its remains and biodiversity.

The two hectares of preserved land allow you to explore the heart of the ancient city. You’ll discover the ramparts, the different habitats and quarters of the city, all surrounded by a rich flora and fauna that is sure to surprise and fascinate both the keen observer and the novice walker or onlooker!
