SAINT-FELIX-LAURAGAIS
From the 1910s onwards, Yvette Guilbert performed a completely new repertoire: literary and poetic songs dating back centuries. The famous singer called on Déodat de Séverac, who harmonised these old tunes and enriched them with ritornellos. Most of these popular songs are abusive to their protagonists, often resulting in outright death. Because on this earth, the common destiny of every being is to disappear when the time comes. Poets have always reminded us of this, praising the preciousness of life by contrast, recounting the pleasures it brings and the pains it inflicts, and mocking our human failings. This tour de chant builds on these songs by combining them with other classical melodies, popular songs and new creations, tracing an arc from the contemplative to the zany.
Before we kick the bucket, let’s make the most of it!
