LE CANAL DU MIDI, UN PATRIMOINE À RÉINVENTER

TOULOUSE

Description

ENSA Toulouse, in partnership with CAUE 31, is putting on an exhibition dedicated to this exceptional heritage, with a fresh look at both the past and the future.
A masterpiece of the 17th century, the Canal du Midi is a unique cultural landscape, marked by the richness of its structures and landscapes. Today, this heritage is at a crossroads, with some sites in a fragile state or falling into disrepair, and their future is being questioned.
Through the work of architecture students, the exhibition explores new ways of reactivating and reinventing these sites. Conversion projects, scenarios of use, strategies for development: these are all proposals that cross architectural, urban and landscape scales, with constant attention to local resources and environmental issues.
Plans, models, photographs and archive documents showcase 14 emblematic sites, from Toulouse to Marseillan, offering the public a new perspective on this area.
Between past, present and future, this exhibition invites visitors to imagine the possible futures of the Canal du Midi. It is accompanied by a programme of meetings and may be touring the Occitanie region.

The exhibition is organised by Toulouse’s École nationale supérieure d’architecture (ENSA), in partnership with the Conseil d’architecture, d’urbanisme et de l’Environnement de la Haute-Garonne (CAUE 31), with the support of Voies Navigables de France (VNF) and the Direction régionale de l’Environnement, de l’Aménagement et du Logement (DREAL).
