TOULOUSE
This comedy in three acts by Marivaux, first performed in 1730, opens with the moods of a young Marquise, Silvia, who finds herself promised to a young man, Dorante, whom she does not know. With the approval of her father, Monsieur Orgon, she devises a stratagem to meet him without being recognised, by swapping roles with Lisette. As luck (or love?) would have it, Dorante proposes the same idea to his valet Arlequin. Under the amused gaze of Monsieur Orgon and his son Mario, master and servant in disguise become entangled in a series of misunderstandings and struggle in the name of love!
