We could come across many stories about him, and come up with hypotheses, cross-checking and sorting, in the hope of finally finding out for sure. But what object, better than his Diary, could give us the voice of Edward Teach, known as Blackbeard, the pirate about whom so much has been written and said – but who, it seems, has never really been listened to?
