AGDE
Music festival ‘Les belles ondes, Art Nouveau revival’.
With L’Instant Donné: Caroline Cren, piano – Marion Tassou, soprano
The Group of Six? Georges Auric, Louis Durey, Arthur Honegger, Darius Milhaud, Francis Poulenc and Germaine Tailleferre.
These are the musicians who dominated the Parisian art scene in the immediate aftermath of the First World War. Sponsored by Érik Satie and supported by Jean Cocteau, who was both their impresario and their éminence grise, ‘the Six’ were the standard-bearers of the New Spirit that was then sweeping through Paris. Intermittent voices of French neoclassicism for some, simple pranksters duping a gullible public and complacent critics with their hoaxes for others, they left their mark on this effervescent period, when anything seemed possible.
