SAINT-CHINIAN
Kim, Angèle, Michelle, Sélim and Abel belong to the new, connected world, the one that can be photographed and shared at the snap of a finger. And it’s the old world they’ve come to visit when they go to Auschwitz to discover the horror of the concentration camps, a harsh, cold memory that won’t, however, resist Michelle’s smile, her pink sweater and the triggering of her smartphone. Has she fulfilled her duty to remember by taking this selfie? Has she sullied the past by posing in front of the remains of the Shoah? On the networks, opinions are rife and conflicting.
In this choral play inspired by a news story, Sylvain Levey takes a no-holds-barred approach to cyber-harassment and the duty to remember, leaving us free to look at – and reflect on – the society we’ve built around appearances.
