POILHES
*Molière and His Masks* is a comedy about the life and death of France’s most famous playwright. A stage play that speaks to our times and blends farce, comedy of manners, political fable, masks, and music.
At a breakneck pace, six performers tackle the life, work, and historical context of Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, known as Molière. Far from the gilded halls of Versailles, this is the Molière of his early days. The man of the makeshift stages, of traveling theater troupes, from a life on the road to fame, and finally to a series of misfortunes.
In a whirlwind of performance, the actors and musicians switch from one role to another, portraying not only Molière, Madeleine Béjart, and the entire troupe, as well as Louis XIV, Anne of Austria, Racine, hypocritical devout figures, and even a few courtiers. Written and directed by Simon Falguières, this theatrical extravaganza passionately and irreverently champions the joyful utopia of life in a theater troupe and artisanal theater. A contemporary farce you absolutely must see!
