PETITES HISTOIRES DE QUARTIER : SAINT-CYPRIEN

TOULOUSE

Description

It’s possible to discover Toulouse as if you were living there: immerse yourself in the life of Saint-Cyprien, with its inhabitants, their routines, their stories big and small… The left bank of the river has long been shunned because of its flood-prone position, subject to the river’s every whim. The domain of hospitals, tanners and abattoirs, it was secured between the 18th century and the 1960s thanks to a programme of dykes along the banks.

It’s only in the last thirty years or so that the area has come into its own as an attractive, up-and-coming suburb. During your visit, you’ll learn about the great craftsmen and women of the local gastronomic scene, the best addresses for artists, and the medieval traces of the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela.

Here, the most rustic places (old stables) rub shoulders with the most fashionable restaurants, the most imposing historical heritage (ramparts, La Grave hospital) rub shoulders with the most charming flower-lined lanes of this booming “village”.
