PETITES HISTOIRES DE QUARTIER : WILSON ET MUSEE DES AUGUSTINS

TOULOUSE

Description

Place Wilson, like a mille-feuille of time, combines several historical periods. It was created from scratch after the destruction of the medieval rampart at the beginning of the 19th century, and is a reminder that the space must now be organised to allow freer, more airy movement.

The guide will take you on a tour of the area, looking for nuggets of inspiration. What if the Victor Hugo car park were a masterpiece of functional Brutalist architecture? What if we told you why there’s a mysterious ‘T’ in Rue St Antoine du T? Why is the Chapel of the Blue Penitents so well hidden? Secrets, destructions and embellishments, few know the history of these busy streets, which will take you all the way to the Augustins.
Then discover the Musée des Beaux-Arts des Augustins. An ancient convent dating from the 14th century, it became one of the oldest museums in France in 1793. The guide will explain some of its masterpieces. Find the grace of a curl of hair in the medieval sculptures and the brilliance of an Orientalist pigment in the modern paintings… Between the Romanesque Hall and the Salon Rouge, the guide will plunge you into dazzling artistic worlds.
