This production arose from a desire to explore the forms of the clown solo through a collaborative work, conceived in a spirit of collective and cross-disciplinary creation.
Encountering Joan Mitchell’s paintings – and in particular her quadriptychs – inspired the very form of the play.
A second source of inspiration is the world of Samuel Beckett, as his writing invites us to construct meaning from what appears to have none – a huge challenge for clowns!
The third source of inspiration comes from Vivaldi’s ‘Four Seasons’, which echo the temperaments of the four clowns.
