TOULOUSE

Description

In the classroom, it’s time to elect the representative for the entire student body. Anar and Cachot are standing as candidates, ready to go head-to-head in a cut-throat campaign. Lune, a bright and outspoken young girl, is torn. Yet girls, too, must be allowed to take part in the debates. By staging this humorous play by Boris Le Roy, Émilie Capliez speaks to the voters of tomorrow… and to those of today!

At a time when democracy is under threat everywhere, the play brings to life abstract concepts such as citizenship, freedom of expression and universal suffrage… School, the micro-society par excellence, becomes the territory to be conquered – a place of differences, violence, encounters and recognition. This funny and deceptively naïve play, skilfully constructed as a short guide to democracy, is never moralising or didactic. In this new version, updated more than fifteen years after the first, the author explores in greater depth the question of women’s place in public life. Lune, previously a supporting character, takes centre stage here. The three actors bring all the vitality of adolescence to life on stage. The perfect family outing!
