SPECTACLE « JUSTE UNE FILLE »

REVEL

Description

It all begins with a birth: ‘What’s that? – It’s a failure.’
Thus begins the life of Laurence Barraqué, born into a family that would have preferred a boy.

Her life as a woman – from the 1960s to the 2000s – punctuated by the songs of Anne Sylvestre, invites us to ask ourselves once again: “What does it mean to be a girl, a woman, a mother today? ”
The challenge of raising children, passing on traditions and finding fulfilment in a patriarchal society; the relationship with one’s body; gender assignment; the right to abortion; rape; motherhood… so many intimate and sensitive subjects, difficult to tackle head-on. The simplicity of the stage design, the distance created by the reading, and the power or lightness of the poetry and music allow us to hear these issues without confrontation, whilst revealing to us the political significance of a subject that is highly topical.

‘Juste une Fille’, based on extracts from Camille Laurens’ novel ‘Fille’ and songs by Anne Sylvestre.
Reading, vocals, double bass, ukulele: Emilie Bourgeois // Reading, vocals: Aurore Lerat
