TOULOUSE
It’s sold out this time, but this tour is available all year round, so don’t hesitate to check our guided tour programme!
The name “mon plaisir” (my pleasure) comes from the name of a “folie”: a beautiful holiday home built in 1772, which disappeared in 1929. In the 18th century, the district was embellished thanks to the plans of Louis de Mondran: the Jardin Royal and the Jardin du Grand-Rond were built. Alongside the flourishing Canal du Midi, a district of small industries, warehouses and even a beer brewery was established!
On this walk, your steps will take you between large residential complexes and cosy bourgeois manor houses. The two voices, historical and architectural, will help you decipher the development of the district.
The first modern residences were the art deco Habitations Bon Marché buildings of the 1930s. Then, in the 1960s, the banks of the canal were turned into an urban boulevard, embroidered with “bars” of buildings. They may be tall, but you’ll be surprised at the subtleties that the architects used to create them.
Then head for the Natural History Museum to see Jean Paul Viguier’s glass wall. To get there, you walk through the underground passage of the Monument à la Gloire de la Résistance de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. This astonishing 1971 memorial combines architecture, sculpture and audiovisuals.
This charming walk offers a variety of sensations thanks to the wooded or contemporary landscapes: perfect for meditation and debate…
